Austin, Texas – Gusty winds up to 30 mph and temperatures pushing 90°F are setting the stage today for stronger storms expected to arrive late Wednesday night across Central Texas.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, breezy south-southeast winds between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, will persist through Tuesday as highs climb into the upper 80s and low 90s along the I-35 corridor, including Austin and San Antonio. These warm, dry conditions will shift quickly as storm chances increase after midnight Wednesday into early Thursday.
A Level 1 of 5 severe weather risk is in place for Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with isolated storms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and locally heavy rainfall. Areas including Austin, New Braunfels, San Marcos, and Kerrville could see the strongest activity during the overnight hours.
Rain chances increase significantly Thursday through the weekend, with multiple rounds of storms possible and localized rainfall totals adding up. By Sunday, a noticeable cooldown arrives, dropping highs into the upper 60s to low 70s across much of the region.
Residents should secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds, monitor alerts overnight Wednesday, and prepare for changing conditions as storms become more widespread later this week.
