Austin, TX – Fire risk could increase within hours Tuesday afternoon as gusty winds and dry air combine across Central Texas, creating conditions that can quickly spread flames.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, south to southeast winds will strengthen through the late morning and persist into the evening, with gusts reaching around 25 mph. At the same time, humidity levels may drop to near 25–30%, especially west of I-35, elevating fire weather concerns.

Across the region, highs will surge into the upper 80s and low 90s, including near 91°F in Austin, 92°F in San Antonio, and mid-90s toward Del Rio and Eagle Pass. Areas like Llano, Kerrville, and Fredericksburg face the greatest risk where dry air and wind overlap.

Any spark could spread rapidly under these conditions. Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and properly dispose of cigarettes. Power equipment use should be limited during peak afternoon heat and wind.

Rain and storm chances increase late Wednesday into Thursday, offering some relief, with peak rain probabilities reaching 40–55% across much of Central Texas.
