Austin, Texas – Patchy fog is slowing some early morning travel across south-central Texas today, but the bigger story this week is a stretch of unseasonably warm weather followed by increasing fire weather concerns as winds strengthen late in the week.
According to the National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio, pockets of dense fog remain possible this morning, though widespread low visibility is not expected. Fog should gradually lift by midmorning, giving way to mixed sunshine and clouds this afternoon. Highs today climb well above normal, ranging from the upper 60s to around 80 degrees across the region.
Cities including Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass will continue to see springlike warmth through Friday. As the warm pattern persists, forecasters warn that elevated fire weather concerns may develop Thursday and Friday as winds increase and dry conditions linger. These conditions could allow grass fires to spread quickly, especially in open and rural areas.
Drivers encountering fog early today are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights. Later in the week, residents should avoid outdoor burning and use caution with any activity that could spark a fire.
Relief arrives this weekend as the next cold front moves through, bringing much cooler temperatures back to central and south Texas. Forecasters say additional updates are likely as wind and fire conditions become clearer later this week.
