AUSTIN, Texas – Central Texas will stay locked in a stretch of unseasonably warm and dry fall weather through most of next week, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 80s to mid-90s across the region. The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio said temperatures are running 4 to 8 degrees above normal for early October, thanks to persistent sunshine and a stable ridge of high pressure overhead.
According to the weather service, a drier airmass moving in Friday night will lower humidity and bring cooler overnight readings through the weekend. Lows are expected to dip into the low to mid-60s, offering some brief morning relief before the warmth returns each afternoon. By early next week, southerly winds will increase moisture levels slightly, keeping nighttime temperatures milder once again.
The forecast shows little to no chance of rain through at least Thursday, with southeast winds generally under 10 mph. Drivers can expect excellent travel conditions but should remain cautious of early morning glare and dry vegetation. Outdoor plans, football games, and weekend festivals will see ideal weather, though residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor work during peak afternoon heat.
Agricultural producers and gardeners should continue monitoring soil moisture, as ongoing dryness could stress shallow-rooted plants. Energy demand may also rise slightly due to prolonged warmth.
