A brief warm-up today will give way to cooler conditions Friday across Central and South Texas as another shot of cold air moves into the region.
According to the National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio office, temperatures today will be slightly milder, with afternoon highs ranging from the mid-40s to low 60s under occasional high clouds. Winds will remain light, allowing for relatively comfortable daytime conditions compared to recent cold spells.
That milder weather will be short-lived. Forecasters say a reinforcing cold front will arrive Friday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures heading into the weekend. Morning lows Friday are expected to fall into the upper teens and 20s in some areas, with cooler-than-normal daytime highs continuing into Saturday and Sunday.
Communities including Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Kerrville, and Georgetown will feel the change most during the early morning hours. Travel along major corridors such as I-35, I-10, US-281, and Loop 1604 may be impacted for commuters as colder temperatures return, particularly before sunrise.
No winter precipitation is expected with this cold front, and forecasters do not anticipate snow or ice accumulation. However, the cooler mornings may require extra caution for early travelers and outdoor workers, especially those exposed to chilly conditions for extended periods.
Looking ahead, the National Weather Service notes that temperatures are expected to moderate back toward seasonal levels early next week. Along with the warming trend, low rain chances may return late Tuesday, bringing the next opportunity for unsettled weather.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of today’s milder conditions while preparing for cooler mornings Friday through the weekend. Dressing in layers and checking updated forecasts before traveling early in the day can help reduce discomfort as Central Texas continues to see shifting winter patterns.
