Austin, Texas — Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across Central Texas Saturday, with some storms potentially becoming strong to severe by the afternoon and evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio, much of the region is under a Level 2 “Slight Risk” for severe weather, meaning scattered severe storms are possible.

Forecasters say storms could produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall, especially as activity increases later in the day.

Rainfall totals are expected to average between 0.25 and 1 inch, though isolated pockets could receive 1 to 3 inches, which may lead to localized flooding in low-lying or flood-prone areas.

The strongest storms are expected from the afternoon through late tonight, as weather systems move across Central Texas ahead of an advancing disturbance.

The severe weather outlook highlights areas across Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Kerrville, and surrounding Hill Country communities as locations where stronger storms could develop.

Meteorologists say residents should remain weather aware, especially if outdoor activities are planned.

Officials recommend having multiple ways to receive weather warnings and moving indoors if thunderstorms approach.

Drivers across the region may also encounter brief heavy downpours and sudden visibility reductions, particularly during stronger storm cells.
