Austin, TX – Unseasonably warm weather across Central Texas will give way to much colder conditions following the passage of a strong cold front Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio office, temperatures will remain well above normal through Sunday, with afternoon highs ranging from the middle 70s to middle 80s across the region. Cloudy skies Saturday morning are expected to become partly cloudy by afternoon, with warm conditions continuing into Sunday.

A strong cold front is forecast to move through Sunday night into early Monday, bringing much colder air into the region. There is a low chance (10–40%) of showers along the front, mainly Sunday night into early Monday morning, though widespread rainfall is not expected.

Behind the front, much colder temperatures will persist through Wednesday. Forecast lows Monday morning are expected to fall into the upper 30s, with even colder conditions developing Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Some locations could see low temperatures near or below freezing, with a light freeze possible both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

In addition to colder temperatures, windy post-frontal conditions will produce wind chill values in the mid-20s to lower 30s, particularly Monday morning. These conditions may impact early commuters, outdoor workers, and sensitive vegetation.

Temperatures are expected to gradually moderate late in the week, returning closer to seasonal averages by Thursday and Friday.

Residents are encouraged to prepare now by protecting sensitive plants, checking outdoor pets and livestock arrangements, and planning for colder morning conditions early next week. Drivers should also be aware that wet roads from any brief showers could become chilly overnight.

The National Weather Service advises monitoring forecast updates as exact temperature lows and freeze coverage become clearer.
