San Antonio, Texas – A cold front sweeping across Central Texas is triggering heavy showers and thunderstorms Monday afternoon, bringing the risk of flooding and dangerous travel conditions from Austin to San Antonio. Gusty winds topping 35 mph are also possible as storms continue to form.
According to the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio office, locally heavy rainfall is expected through late afternoon, particularly along and south of the I-10 Corridor. Radar shows widespread showers building across the Hill Country and into Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe counties, with new development likely as the front pushes farther south.
Drivers on I-35 between Austin and San Antonio could face ponding and reduced visibility during peak afternoon travel hours. TXDOT is urging caution as water may pool quickly on low-lying roads, especially near New Braunfels, San Marcos, and Gonzales. Outdoor events and after-school activities could also be disrupted by the storms.
Residents are advised to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions, avoid flooded roads, and secure outdoor items ahead of strong wind gusts.
Storm chances remain in place through the evening, with additional advisories possible if rainfall intensifies.
