Austin, Texas – Seasonably cool to cold temperatures are expected across Central Texas over the coming days, with the potential for freezing conditions during the early morning hours late this weekend into early next week.
According to the National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio, temperatures will remain within a few degrees of typical mid-January averages. Freezing temperatures are possible Sunday and Monday mornings, particularly across portions of the region that are more prone to colder overnight lows.
Daytime highs through the weekend are forecast to range mainly in the upper 50s to mid-60s for much of the Austin area, while overnight lows are expected to drop into the mid-30s to low 40s, with some locations potentially falling to or below freezing by Sunday morning.
Forecasters said rainfall chances remain low overall, with only a slight chance of showers mainly early next week. Most locations are expected to remain dry through the weekend, with no significant precipitation impacts anticipated.
The colder overnight temperatures may pose concerns for sensitive vegetation, exposed pipes, and pets in areas that dip to freezing. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts as the timing and coverage of freezing temperatures become clearer.
While widespread hard freezes are not currently indicated, the National Weather Service noted that colder conditions will be most noticeable during the early morning hours before sunrise Sunday and Monday.
Daytime temperatures are expected to gradually moderate again later next week, though nights may remain cool. No winter precipitation is forecast with this cold spell.
Commuters, students, and early-morning workers should be prepared for chilly starts to the day, particularly early next week. Additional updates will be issued by the National Weather Service as confidence increases regarding freeze coverage and duration.
