Austin, TX – A Flood Watch remains in effect through 6 a.m. Friday for the western Hill Country and Southern Edwards Plateau as a slow-moving system brings the potential for heavy rainfall across the region. The National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio office warns that widespread totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with isolated spots potentially reaching up to 5 inches.
Forecasters note that the highest rainfall amounts are most likely across the western Hill Country and southern portions of the Edwards Plateau. With recent wet conditions and saturated soils in some areas, excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, streams, creeks, and low-lying flood-prone locations, particularly overnight when rates could be heavier.
Communities included in the Flood Watch area span from Del Rio to Rocksprings, Uvalde, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Boerne, and into the outskirts of San Antonio. Urban flooding in poor drainage areas is also possible, especially near road crossings and low-water areas that can become hazardous quickly.
Residents are urged to monitor conditions closely and avoid driving across flooded roadways. NWS officials emphasize the typical warning: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
The Flood Watch will remain in effect until early Friday morning, with conditions expected to gradually improve later in the day as the system shifts east.
