Austin, Texas – After record-breaking warmth to end the week, a weak cold front is sliding through Central Texas today, bringing slightly cooler air but keeping temperatures well above normal under sunny and breezy conditions.

According to the National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio office, afternoon highs will still reach the 70s and lower 80s across the region, running about 10 to 20 degrees above early January averages. Austin is expected to climb into the mid 70s, while San Antonio, New Braunfels, and Pleasanton approach 80 degrees. Farther southwest toward Eagle Pass and Carrizo Springs, highs may push into the lower 80s.

North to northeasterly winds will increase behind the front, sustained around 10 to 15 mph with gusts over 20 mph at times. The breezy conditions will be most noticeable during the late morning and afternoon, especially across open areas and along east–west roadways. Despite the frontal passage, skies will remain mostly sunny with no rain expected.

The combination of dry air, gusty winds, and warm temperatures could elevate grass fire concerns, particularly west of I-35. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and properly secure anything that could spark a fire.

Tonight, temperatures cool modestly, but remain mild for January. The warmer-than-normal pattern continues into the weekend with dry conditions holding. Forecasters note additional updates will follow if wind or fire weather concerns increase later today.
