Austin, Texas — Mild temperatures will continue across the Austin area today, with spotty light rain or drizzle possible along and east of Interstate 35 through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio, high temperatures are expected to reach the mid-60s to low-70s across central Texas. While widespread rainfall is not anticipated, low chances for light rain or drizzle remain in place mainly east of the I-35 corridor, including portions of the Austin metro area.
Forecasters say skies will gradually clear from west to east as the day progresses. Areas west of Austin are expected to see more sunshine, while mostly cloudy to partly cloudy conditions may persist longer along the I-35 corridor and across the coastal plains.
Any precipitation that develops is expected to be light, but even brief drizzle could create slick spots on roadways, especially during peak travel times. Drivers are encouraged to use caution on untreated surfaces and allow extra following distance.
Major routes including Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 290, and State Highway 71 could see intermittent wet pavement through the afternoon hours. Visibility impacts are expected to be minimal, but changing road conditions may catch drivers off guard.
Winds are forecast to remain light, helping keep conditions relatively calm despite lingering cloud cover. No severe weather or flooding concerns are expected today.
The National Weather Service advises commuters and daytime travelers to remain aware of changing conditions, particularly east of I-35 where drizzle is most likely to persist the longest.
For students, workers, and afternoon commuters, the primary travel concern will be occasional slick roads rather than heavy rain, with conditions gradually improving later today as skies begin to clear across the Austin area.
