Austin, Texas – Scorching heat is gripping South-Central Texas Friday with high temperatures soaring into the upper 90s and even breaching 104°F along the Rio Grande, prompting health and safety warnings heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, temperatures will range from 94°F in San Antonio to 100°F in Uvalde and 102°F near Del Rio. A southerly breeze of 8–12 mph—with gusts up to 20 mph in the afternoon—will offer minimal relief. The region remains under minimal impact conditions for now, but heat-sensitive individuals are urged to stay indoors during peak hours.
Cities including Austin (98°F), New Braunfels (97°F), and Eagle Pass (100°F) are expected to see intense heat through Saturday. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and check on vulnerable neighbors. High UV indexes also pose a sunburn risk within minutes.
The heat begins to ease slightly Sunday, but isolated thunderstorms could arrive by afternoon. Scattered showers and storms are more likely Monday through Wednesday, especially across the Hill Country and I-35 corridor.
Thunderstorm chances increase into early next week, and residents should stay alert for updates and possible advisories through Wednesday.
