Austin, TX – Warm, breezy conditions are settling over Central Texas today, with temperatures pushing toward 90 degrees and wind gusts up to 25 mph creating elevated fire risk and travel concerns through Monday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, morning low clouds and patchy fog will clear quickly, giving way to mostly sunny skies. South winds will increase to 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph by mid-afternoon, especially along the I-35 corridor from Georgetown to San Antonio.
High temperatures will range from 84 to 87 degrees in Austin and surrounding cities, with even warmer readings up to 89 degrees across the Rio Grande Plains, including Del Rio and Eagle Pass. Dry air and gusty winds may impact drivers on elevated roadways like I-35 and U.S. 290 while also increasing wildfire spread potential in grassy areas.
Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure loose items, and stay hydrated during peak afternoon heat. Visibility could briefly drop early today in fog-prone areas before skies clear.
Warmer-than-average conditions continue through midweek, with rain and storm chances increasing between Wednesday and Friday as moisture returns to the region.
