Austin, TX – An extended stretch of unseasonably warm and dry weather is expected across Central and South Texas through Christmas Day, with temperatures running well above normal and approaching record levels, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio, daytime high temperatures from Friday through Christmas will range from the upper 70s to low 80s across much of the region. Cities including Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Georgetown, San Marcos, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde are all forecast to see highs several degrees above average for late December.

In Austin, highs are expected to climb from the upper 60s Friday to the upper 70s and near 80 degrees by early next week. San Antonio follows a similar trend, with highs rising into the upper 70s to around 80 degrees through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Overnight temperatures will also remain unusually mild. Forecast lows are expected to stay in the 40s and 50s early, then rise into the upper 50s and lower 60s by the middle of next week—values more typical of early spring than the holiday season.

Forecasters note that no rain is expected through Christmas, continuing a dry pattern across the region. While the warm, sunny weather may be welcome for holiday travel and outdoor plans, the lack of rainfall could allow dry conditions to persist, especially across rural areas.

The National Weather Service says some locations may come within a few degrees of daily record highs, though widespread records are not guaranteed at this time.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated during outdoor activities and remain mindful of fire safety, as dry conditions continue.
