Austin, Texas – Flash flooding could threaten parts of South Central Texas through Sunday as an upper-level disturbance brings waves of locally heavy rain to the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, northern counties such as Burnet, Llano, Mason, and San Saba may see 1 to 3 inches of rainfall from Saturday evening through late Sunday. A Level 2 of 4 risk for excessive rainfall remains in effect for much of the Hill Country, with conditions ripe for flash flooding, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
Localized heavy rain may impact travel along U.S. Highway 281, I-35 north of Austin, and rural roadways near rivers and creeks. Residents are urged to avoid low water crossings and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings. Outdoor plans, including camping and boating, should be reconsidered or closely monitored for changing conditions.
This system could also impact urban drainage in cities like Georgetown, Round Rock, and Killeen, where brief torrential downpours may overwhelm stormwater infrastructure.
Rain chances are expected to decrease late Sunday, but isolated showers may linger. Additional updates or advisories could be issued if rainfall rates increase.
