Austin, TX – A cold and clear night is ahead for Central and South-Central Texas, with temperatures dropping into the upper 30s and low 40s, according to the National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio.
Under calm winds and clear skies, overnight lows are forecast to reach around 32°F in Llano, 37°F in Fredericksburg and Kerrville, and near 40°F in Austin, San Antonio, and Rocksprings. The NWS advises residents to be prepared for a chilly start Thursday morning, especially in low-lying and rural areas.
After the cold start, temperatures will rebound Thursday afternoon into the 60s and 70s, continuing a pattern of fluctuating highs and lows through the weekend. Most locations will remain dry through Sunday, though a few isolated rain chances (10–15%) could return early next week as moisture slowly increases across the region.
The forecast shows highs in the mid to upper 70s for Austin and San Antonio by Friday and Saturday, with overnight lows mostly in the 40s and low 50s. Cooler conditions are possible again early next week as a weak front passes through.
While the overall pattern remains quiet, the NWS notes that residents should expect wide temperature swings typical of early December in Texas.
Drivers heading out early Thursday should watch for patchy frost in colder valleys, but no major weather hazards are expected.
