Austin, Texas – Scattered thunderstorms could rattle Central Texas this afternoon as near-100-degree heat blankets the region from San Antonio to College Station.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, isolated to scattered storms are expected to develop along and east of Highway 281 beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing into the early evening. While not all areas will see rain, locally heavy downpours and lightning are possible, especially in eastern zones like Bastrop, Brenham, and La Grange.

Temperatures will remain seasonally hot, with highs reaching 101°F in Carrizo Springs, 97°F in San Antonio, and 95°F in Austin. High humidity levels may push the heat index even higher, raising the risk of heat exhaustion for outdoor workers or those without air conditioning.

Drivers should watch for slick roads and reduced visibility during storms. Residents are advised to avoid flooded areas and stay weather-aware, particularly in flood-prone neighborhoods and low-water crossings east of I-35.

Storm chances taper off by late evening, but more pop-up showers could return later this week.
