San Antonio, TX – Central Texas is in for a dramatic weather shift this weekend, moving from near-record heat to freezing temperatures in just a few days.
According to the US National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio, unseasonably warm conditions will peak today with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s, before a strong cold front pushes through late Saturday night. Behind the front, much cooler and windy conditions are expected Sunday through Tuesday, with temperatures falling well below seasonal averages.
The forecast calls for highs in the 50s and 60s early next week, with overnight lows plunging into the 30s across much of the Hill Country. A freeze is possible Monday night into Tuesday morning in areas including Fredericksburg, Kerrville, and Llano, marking the first frost potential of the season.
No rain is expected with this system, but forecasters advise residents to prepare for the sharp drop by protecting outdoor plants, pets, and exposed pipes. After the cold spell, temperatures are expected to rebound midweek, returning to the upper 70s by Wednesday and Thursday.
