Austin, TX — Central Texas is bracing for multiple rounds of severe weather beginning Friday night and continuing through early Easter Sunday, with large hail, damaging winds, and lightning all possible.
According to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio office, a Level 1 out of 5 risk is in effect for the southern Edwards Plateau Friday night, including areas like Rocksprings and Del Rio. On Saturday night, that risk increases to Level 2 in the Rio Grande Plains, Hill Country, and along the I-35 corridor, affecting cities like San Antonio and Austin.
Storms may begin as isolated Friday night with coverage expanding to numerous showers and thunderstorms by Saturday night. The most intense activity is expected late Saturday into early Sunday. Clearing is forecast to move west to east by late Easter morning, improving conditions by the afternoon.
Residents should monitor local alerts, stay indoors if storms approach, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Outdoor plans, especially Saturday evening through early Sunday, should include contingency plans due to elevated weather risks. Highs this weekend will range from the upper 70s to upper 80s.
Stay weather aware and check forecasts frequently through the weekend.
