Austin, TX – The hottest day of the week is forecast for Tuesday across South Central Texas, with heat index values expected to soar into the triple digits. Forecasters urge residents to limit time outdoors, stay hydrated, and take breaks in the shade or indoors.

According to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio, afternoon highs will climb into the upper 90s and low 100s, with heat index values peaking between 104° and 108° in many areas, including San Antonio, Austin, New Braunfels, and Uvalde. Cuero, Gonzales, and La Grange are also forecast to see extreme heat conditions.

Relief is expected midweek as a cold front pushes through the region. On Wednesday, rain chances increase to 65–75% for much of the Austin-San Antonio corridor, with the highest probabilities in La Grange, Cuero, and Uvalde. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the 80s for highs later in the week, with overnight lows falling into the 60s.

Forecasters caution that a few of Wednesday’s storms could produce strong winds and locally heavy rainfall, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. While temperatures will moderate, afternoon highs are expected to remain warm into the weekend, with values returning to near 90° by Sunday and Monday.

Residents are encouraged to continue practicing heat safety today and to remain weather-aware for storm updates midweek.
