Austin, TX – Texans can expect a dramatic temperature swing over the next several days as a strong cold front ends a stretch of unseasonably warm weather. According to the National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio, afternoon highs in the upper 80s and low 90s on Friday and Saturday could approach record levels before a major cooldown arrives Sunday.
The front will bring windy and much cooler conditions, with overnight lows dropping into the 30s and 40s early next week. Some rural areas and valleys may experience light freezes Monday and Tuesday mornings, marking the first significant cold spell of the season.
Forecasters advise residents to check tire pressures, protect sensitive plants, and prepare for the wide range of temperatures expected through early next week. Despite the temperature drop, the forecast remains mostly dry across South-Central Texas, with no major rain expected as the front moves through.
After Sunday’s front, daytime highs will struggle to reach the 50s and 60s, providing a sharp contrast to this week’s near-record warmth.
