Austin, Texas – Strong thunderstorms are expected across south-central Texas today, bringing dangerous driving conditions and sizzling heat to the region.

According to the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio, scattered storms with gusty winds and heavy downpours will affect areas from Kerrville to La Grange through Friday evening. Temperatures will climb into the mid-90s to near 102°F, compounding discomfort and raising heat-related risks.

Localized flooding is possible, especially along I-35 near San Marcos, Austin, and New Braunfels, where rainfall rates may spike. Outages or minor wind damage may occur near stronger cells. Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak storm hours and avoid flooded low water crossings.

This marks one of the hottest storm days this summer for the region. High heat and humidity will keep heat index values near triple digits into the weekend.

More scattered storms are possible Saturday, with clearer skies expected by Sunday.
