Aurora, IL – Six residents safely evacuated a multi-unit home after a fire broke out early Thursday morning in the 700 block of 5th Street. The Aurora Fire Department responded at approximately 4:40 AM with 23 personnel, including four Engine Companies, two Truck Companies, and two Medic Units.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the 2 ½-story home, which had been converted into three units. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire while search teams confirmed that no one remained inside. All residents, ranging in age from 13 to 53, had evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival.

No injuries were reported, and Victim Services assistance was not requested. Fire Chief David McCabe commended the crews for containing the fire. “Our teams acted quickly to bring the situation under control,” McCabe said.

While the home was deemed uninhabitable due to fire damage, the cause of the blaze is still under investigation. For more information, contact the Aurora Fire Department at (630) 256-4000.
