Aurora, IL – Duck hunting season officially started today prompting an important reminder from the local police department. Residents have reported hearing gunshots, but authorities assured the public that these sounds likely come from hunters legally engaging in the sport.

According to the Aurora Police Department, hunters are permitted to hunt in designated areas, which explains the frequent gunfire some residents may hear. The department emphasized that while these activities are legal, residents should stay alert and cautious.

“If something feels out of the ordinary, call us. We’d rather respond to a false alarm than miss a legitimate concern,” stated Aurora Police.

Police urged the community to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity. Though duck hunting is a seasonal occurrence, safety remains a priority.
