Aurora, Illinois — The City of Aurora shared in a Facebook post today that July has been proclaimed as National Parks and Recreation Month in Aurora.
The proclamation was made by Mayor John Laesch at the Committee of the Whole Meeting last Tuesday night, July 15. It was presented to Aurora’s Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, Steve Kulesza, at the meeting.
The proclamation notes that parks and recreation programs are an “integral” part of the community. The proclamation said they play a vital role in the promotion of healthy and active lifestyles, mental well-being and community involvement.
It also noted the work of the staff to make these spaces safe and enjoyable to all Aurora residents and guests.
“WHEREAS, this month provides an opportunity to celebrate our hardworking City of Aurora Parks and Recreation Division and to thank them for their year-round work in maintaining our parks and enhancing opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy them,” the proclamation reads. It is dated July 15, 2025, and signed by Major John Laesch.
