Aurora, IL – Aurora police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon after a man allegedly displayed a knife during a standoff on the city’s near west side.

According to the Aurora Police Department, officers responded around 12:35 p.m. on January 21, 2026, to a report of a person with a weapon and battery in the 300 block of South Broadway. When officers arrived, an adult male was reportedly barricaded inside and armed.

Police said the man displayed a knife when they approached, prompting officers to open fire. The man sustained at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics from the Aurora Fire Department provided emergency care before transporting him for treatment. His current condition has not been released.

Following department protocol, the involved officers were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force is conducting an independent investigation into the officers’ actions.
