Aurora, IL – The City of Aurora has opened a temporary overnight warming center to support residents facing dangerously cold temperatures. Located at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May St., the shelter opens tonight at 8 p.m.
The center will operate nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. through Friday, Jan. 10. Dates include Monday through Tuesday, Jan. 6-7, and continue nightly through Thursday-Friday, Jan. 9-10. Residents can enter through the courtyard door facing New York Street, marked under the ramp.
According to city officials, the shelter provides a safe space with cots, snacks, and water. Security staff will be present during operating hours to ensure safety. The warming center is activated based on weather thresholds, ensuring assistance during critical conditions.
As temperatures drop, city leaders encourage residents in need or those aware of someone requiring shelter to visit the center. Access to temporary housing offers critical relief during severe winter weather.
