Aurora, IL – Aurora police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man and left a 23-year-old woman critically injured late Wednesday night on Spruce Street.

According to the Aurora Police Department, officers and firefighters responded around 11:21 p.m. on November 5, 2025, after receiving reports that a car had struck a tree in the 600 block of Spruce Street. Upon arrival, responders found two occupants — both in their 20s — ejected from the vehicle.

Paramedics with the Aurora Fire Department pronounced the male driver dead at the scene. The female passenger was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and remains in critical condition. The Kane County Coroner’s Office is handling the autopsy and will release the victim’s name once family notifications are complete.

Investigators say preliminary evidence indicates the gray Honda Accord was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed before leaving the roadway and striking a tree. The roadway remained closed for several hours overnight as police reconstructed the crash scene.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy for these families,” said Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas. “We ask everyone to slow down and stay alert — small decisions behind the wheel can make all the difference.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division at (630) 256-5330 or email tips@aurora.il.us.
