Aurora, IL – 2 a.m. Shooting Injures Juvenile on Sunset Avenue

Aurora, Illinois – A juvenile was shot early Sunday on Aurora’s near west side, prompting an active police investigation.

According to the Aurora Police Department, officers responded around 2:17 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Sunset Avenue. When officers arrived, they located a male juvenile who had been shot in the lower body.

Police said officers immediately rendered aid until Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived and assumed care. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and was later released. No additional injuries were reported.

Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Evidence technicians processed the area and collected forensic evidence.

Based on preliminary information, investigators believe the shooting appears to have been targeted. Police said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the broader community.
