Augusta, Ark. — A Woodruff County deputy fatally shot a 45-year-old man during an early Sunday disturbance response in Augusta.

According to the Arkansas State Police, investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division are reviewing the officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday, March 15, after the Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance.

Authorities said Woodruff County deputies responded around 4:13 a.m. to a residence in the 1100 block of White Drive to assist the Augusta Police Department with a reported disturbance.

During the incident, a deputy discharged his weapon, striking a man identified as Randy Ealy, 45, of Franklin, who authorities say was allegedly involved in the disturbance.

Ealy died at the scene, according to state police.

Officials reported that no law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where officials will determine the official cause and manner of death.

Investigators with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division will compile evidence and prepare a case file for the Woodruff County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which will review the findings and determine whether the use of deadly force complied with Arkansas law.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional details may be released as the review continues.

Incidents involving officer-involved shootings often draw attention from students, young workers, and residents who commute through smaller Delta communities like Augusta.
