Pontiac, MI – An Auburn Hills woman is facing felony robbery and larceny charges after allegedly stealing purses from women shopping at local stores during the holiday season, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said 37-year-old Lynsia Marlon Leininger was charged with unarmed robbery and larceny from a person after two incidents in Auburn Hills on December 5. Deputies reported that Leininger allegedly grabbed a purse from a 71-year-old woman’s cart at a Kroger store, then ran toward a Meijer on Marketplace Circle, where another theft was reported.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the second victim and bystanders helped identify Leininger, who was arrested nearby. Officials said the suspect resisted but was taken into custody without serious injuries.
“This is a sad reminder that some individuals seek to prey on others—particularly the elderly—during the holiday season,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a release. “We urge everyone to remain situationally aware and to keep personal items secured while shopping.”
Leininger remains held in the Oakland County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond and is due back in court later this month.
Authorities also warned residents about recent phone scams involving callers impersonating Sheriff’s Office staff demanding payments.
