Attu Station, Alaska – A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck the remote western Aleutian Islands at 6:20 a.m. Friday, registering as a light but noticeable seismic event in one of the most active tectonic zones in the U.S.

According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, the quake occurred 232 kilometers east-southeast of Attu Station at a depth of 20 kilometers. The event was reviewed and confirmed shortly after detection, with no tsunami threat issued and no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Aleutian chain sits along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where the Pacific Plate subducts beneath the North American Plate, frequently generating small to moderate earthquakes. While this event remained relatively weak, its offshore location and depth limited any surface impact. Nearby maritime routes and remote outposts may have experienced brief, minor shaking, though infrastructure disruptions are not expected.

Emergency management officials across Alaska continue to monitor seismic activity in the region, particularly as clusters of smaller quakes can occasionally precede stronger events. Residents and vessels operating in the Aleutians are advised to remain aware of updates and ensure emergency communication devices are functional.

Seismic monitoring remains ongoing, and additional updates will be issued if activity increases.
