Miami, FL – Tropical Storm Lorenzo is proving to be one of the Atlantic’s least dramatic storms of the season, spinning quietly over open ocean more than 1,000 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s Monday update, Lorenzo’s maximum sustained winds are holding around 50 mph as it drifts northwest at 16 mph. The system is expected to meander over the central Atlantic through the week, with no coastal impacts or watches in effect.

Forecasters say Lorenzo may strengthen slightly midweek but will remain well away from land, making this tropical event more of a weather footnote than a headline.

Elsewhere, NOAA reports no new tropical developments are expected in the Atlantic over the next seven days. In the East Pacific, a separate system south of Mexico has about a 40 percent chance of organizing later this week.

For now, Lorenzo’s journey looks to be long, lonely, and largely uneventful — a reminder that not every named storm is built for drama.
