Miami, FL – The National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Storm Jerry, which is expected to strengthen into a hurricane later this week before turning north through the open Atlantic, according to an 11 p.m. advisory Tuesday.
According to the NHC, the storm’s center was located near latitude 12.8°N and longitude 48.7°W, moving west-northwest at 23 mph with maximum sustained winds near 50 mph. Forecast models show Jerry gaining strength over the next several days, potentially reaching hurricane status by Friday as it approaches the Leeward Islands.
While the storm is projected to remain east of the Caribbean’s main islands and curve northward over open waters, hazardous conditions such as rough seas and strong winds could still affect parts of the Lesser Antilles by late Thursday into Friday.
Meteorologists say the storm will likely continue its track into the North Atlantic through the weekend, possibly passing near Bermuda by Sunday if the forecast holds. No U.S. mainland impacts are expected at this time, but forecasters caution that storm paths can shift and updates should be monitored closely.
Residents across the Caribbean are urged to stay informed as watches or warnings could be issued if Jerry’s path changes.
