Rehoboth Beach, Del. – Strong northeast winds are expected to whip across the Delaware and southern New Jersey coastline Thursday, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph and posing risks of downed trees, scattered power outages, and hazardous travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday until midnight. The advisory covers Delaware Beaches and New Jersey’s coastal counties of Cape May, Atlantic, and Ocean, including popular destinations such as Ocean City, Atlantic City, and Long Beach Island.

Gusts of this strength could make driving difficult, especially for trucks, vans, and other high-profile vehicles along coastal routes like the Garden State Parkway, Route 9, and Route 1 in Delaware. Outdoor objects, construction equipment, and beach umbrellas left unsecured could be blown around, creating added hazards.

Utility crews are preparing for possible service interruptions, and residents are urged to charge devices in advance and avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind periods. Beachgoers and boaters should also exercise caution, as rough surf and strong rip currents may accompany the system.

The wind threat is expected to diminish late Thursday night, but forecasters warn that additional advisories may follow if conditions persist into the weekend.
