ATLANTA, Ga. – Holiday travelers in Georgia can expect mostly sunny skies and warm afternoons through Labor Day, but isolated thunderstorms may develop in northern parts of the state each afternoon. Highs will remain in the mid-80s across metro Atlanta and central Georgia, with cooler temperatures in the 70s for the North Georgia mountains.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the main storm threat will be limited to the mountain region, though brief downpours or lightning strikes could affect nearby areas during the late afternoon and evening. Storms are expected to remain scattered and short-lived, but forecasters caution that lightning remains a hazard for outdoor activities.
Sunday will bring highs between 77 and 83 degrees in northern Georgia with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s. On Labor Day, temperatures will range from 76 to 84, dipping into the mid-50s overnight in mountain valleys. The NWS reminds residents and visitors, “When thunder roars, go indoors,” especially around lakes, parks, and hiking trails where shelter may be limited.
Warm, mostly dry weather will dominate the rest of the week, with only small chances of afternoon storms lingering into midweek.
