Atlanta, Georgia – Afternoon plans across much of Georgia may get washed out as another round of scattered thunderstorms develops between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday, bringing threats of gusty winds, frequent lightning, and localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, storm coverage won’t be as widespread as Saturday’s, but any storm that forms could quickly turn severe. The main concern spans north and central Georgia, including Atlanta, Gainesville, Rome, and Macon, where rain chances range from 50% to 70%.
Drivers should remain alert for ponding on roads and rapid shifts in visibility. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph in some storms, raising the risk for downed tree limbs and isolated power outages. Cities like Athens, Carrollton, and LaGrange are also in the impact zone through this evening.
If you’re heading outdoors, have a backup plan, and consider postponing activities that can’t be moved inside. Stay off the roads during heavy downpours and avoid parking under trees.
Storm activity is expected to diminish after 10 p.m., but pop-up showers may linger into early Monday. Stay weather-aware, especially if new alerts are issued later today.
