Atlanta, Georgia – Heavy rain continues to drench metro Atlanta and much of central Georgia as a Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday evening. Roads and low-lying areas across the region are at risk for flash flooding, with rainfall totals approaching three inches in some communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, showers and thunderstorms are expected to persist overnight and into Wednesday. Rainfall rates could trigger rapid rises in creeks, rivers, and urban areas, particularly where storms repeatedly track over the same neighborhoods. The watch area covers Atlanta, Macon, Athens, Gainesville, and extends into surrounding counties.
Travel may be hazardous, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and seek alternate routes if necessary. Residents living near creeks or in flood-prone neighborhoods should stay alert for possible flood warnings or evacuation notices. Local officials recommend keeping cell phones charged and preparing for power outages or rapid water rise.
By late Wednesday, rain chances will taper as drier air moves in, but another round of scattered storms could return Thursday afternoon. With saturated ground, even brief downpours may cause new flooding concerns later in the week. Additional advisories or warnings remain possible depending on future rainfall.
