ATLANTA, Ga. – The morning haze over metro Atlanta hides what’s coming next: the coldest air of the fall season. After one last stretch of sun and mild air, an Arctic front will sweep across Georgia, sending temperatures plunging into the 20s and triggering widespread Freeze Warnings by late Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday, followed by a Freeze Watch Monday night into Tuesday morning. Sub-freezing temperatures between 25°F and 28°F are likely across much of north and central Georgia, including Fulton, Cobb, Gwinnett, and DeKalb Counties. Areas north of I-20 could see even colder lows near 23°F in rural valleys and higher elevations.

Residents are urged to protect exposed pipes, bring pets indoors, and cover tender plants before temperatures tumble. The first hard freeze of the season can crack plumbing, damage unprotected crops, and mark the end of the growing season for the region.

Monday brings sunshine but brisk northwest winds that could gust to 30 mph, keeping wind chills in the 20s through early afternoon. By Veterans Day, skies remain clear, but morning lows stay near freezing before climbing into the upper 40s.

After midweek, Georgia gradually thaws. Highs return to the mid-60s Wednesday and reach the 70s by late week — a welcome rebound after two frosty mornings. Still, this early November cold snap serves as a sharp reminder that winter’s edge is drawing closer, even deep in the South.
