ATLANTA, Ga. – Warm, sunny skies will dominate Georgia’s Labor Day weekend, but a push of cool September air looms just behind it. Holiday travelers should enjoy dry conditions, yet stay alert for possible rain returning to the region by Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service, Labor Day will bring mostly sunny skies with highs near 81 degrees across Atlanta and surrounding counties. That fair weather means smoother travel on interstates, including I-75, I-85, and I-20. However, storm chances climb again by midweek as a frontal system moves into the Southeast.

Sunday and Labor Day look ideal for outdoor plans, with highs in the low 80s and low humidity. But by Tuesday, a 20 percent chance of storms develops, increasing to 30 percent Wednesday. Some showers could bring heavy rainfall, leading to slick roads during commutes. Residents should plan accordingly and keep devices charged in case of brief power outages.

National outlook maps show a strong push of below-normal temperatures across the Midwest and South beginning late next week. While Georgia won’t feel the full brunt immediately, early September could mark the first real hint of fall, with overnight lows dipping into the 60s and highs slipping into the upper 70s by next weekend.

Cooler air may be welcome relief after a hot summer, but unsettled conditions remain likely midweek. More advisories could be issued if storms strengthen.
