Atlanta, Georgia – Rain chances are expected to increase across north and central Georgia beginning Wednesday, with a rainy weekend ahead for areas including major Atlanta roadways such as Interstates 75, 85, and 20.
According to the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City, a low-pressure system is forecast to move eastward, bringing higher rain chances to north Georgia starting Wednesday. Rain probabilities are expected to rise to around 50 percent Wednesday, increasing further as the week continues.
Forecasters said rain chances may dip briefly Thursday before increasing again Friday and Saturday, with probabilities reaching up to 70 percent by the weekend. Most rainfall amounts are expected to remain generally under 0.25 inches, though repeated showers could lead to wet road conditions during peak travel times.
A second low-pressure system is expected to move eastward by the weekend, contributing to continued rain chances across central Georgia. The National Weather Service said this system is likely to result in a rainy weekend rather than isolated showers.
Despite the increased rainfall, forecasters noted that the risk for severe weather remains low at this time. Officials said the expected rainfall could be beneficial, particularly for areas that have experienced recent dry conditions.
Drivers along the Interstate 285 perimeter and major commuter routes such as I-75 and I-85 may experience slick roads during periods of rain, especially during morning and evening travel hours later this week.
The National Weather Service encouraged residents to plan ahead for wet conditions and to keep umbrellas and rain gear handy as showers become more frequent.
No watches or warnings have been issued, and no flooding concerns were highlighted in the update. Forecasters said conditions will continue to be monitored as the systems approach.
Additional updates are expected as timing and rainfall coverage become clearer.
