Georgia – Low gray clouds hang over downtown Atlanta this morning as temperatures sit near 51 degrees and a light east breeze moves through the city. Pavement is dry along I-75 and I-85, but the air feels cool and damp to start the day. That chill won’t last long.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, skies remain mostly cloudy with highs reaching 64 degrees this afternoon. Winds stay easterly around 10 mph, occasionally gusting higher. No rain is expected today, making for a smooth commute across Fulton and DeKalb counties.
The warm-up accelerates midweek. Highs jump to 77 degrees Wednesday under mostly sunny skies. By Thursday, temperatures surge to 81 degrees with bright sunshine across North Georgia. Friday peaks near 83 degrees, though a 20 percent chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms develops after 1 p.m.
This is classic March whiplash in reverse. Cool mornings quickly give way to early spring heat.
Clocks spring ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. Longer daylight arrives just as this warm spell settles in. Weekend highs remain in the lower 80s with scattered shower chances at times.
Looking ahead into early next week, above-normal temperatures continue with highs near 79 Monday and additional spotty rain chances.
