Atlanta, Georgia – Strong to severe storms could bring damaging winds and hail to central Georgia Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, isolated showers and storms remain possible through Friday evening, followed by another round of scattered to widespread storms late Friday night through Saturday.

Forecasters say a few storms may become strong to severe Saturday, particularly across central Georgia, including areas near Macon, Warner Robins, Columbus, and along the I-75, I-16, and I-185 corridors.

The greatest threat window is between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.

The primary concerns include wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph, large hail, and the possibility of a brief spin-up tornado. The overall severe threat level for central Georgia is rated at Level 1, indicating isolated severe storms are possible.

Storms moving across major roadways including I-75, I-16, and I-185 could reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions during peak weekend travel hours. Localized power outages and downed tree limbs may also occur where stronger cells develop.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated statements from the National Weather Service and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings Saturday afternoon.

The timing may be especially relevant for students, part-time workers, and weekend commuters traveling across central Georgia.

Forecasters emphasize that not all areas will experience severe weather, but conditions support isolated stronger storms capable of producing impacts.
