Atlanta, GA – North and central Georgia wake under a thick gray blanket this Sunday morning as dense fog grips much of the region, reducing visibility to under a quarter mile in some areas. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Dense Fog Advisory through 10 a.m., urging drivers to slow down and use low-beam headlights when traveling along I-75, I-285, and I-20.
With temperatures sitting in the mid-30s, any fog condensation may leave damp or lightly slick patches on bridges and elevated roads. Expect a slow morning commute, particularly through metro Atlanta, Athens, and down toward Macon. By late morning, light winds will help disperse the fog, revealing mostly cloudy skies and highs near 52°F.
Conditions stay unsettled into Sunday night, when showers develop after midnight and linger into early Monday. The rain should remain light but may coincide with the Monday morning drive — another reason to plan a few extra minutes.
As the week progresses, a cooler and brighter pattern takes hold. Sunshine returns by Tuesday with highs near 50°F, and midweek temperatures rebound slightly under clear skies. Meteorologists note that while Georgia remains mild, Arctic air massing to the north between December 11–17 could bring a noticeable chill to the Deep South by next weekend.
