Atlanta, Georgia – Temperatures across Georgia will tumble by nearly 30 degrees by Saturday morning as a strong cold front moves through the region late Friday. After a mild stretch with highs in the 60s, residents should prepare for a sharp chill and potential hard freeze heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, scattered showers are expected Sunday night into early Monday, followed by isolated rain chances again Thursday and Friday. The heaviest rainfall is not expected to cause flooding, but motorists should still use caution during morning commutes, especially in metro Atlanta.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring a brief break from the clouds, with mostly sunny skies and daytime highs ranging from the mid-40s to low 60s. However, a noticeable drop begins Friday night as colder air surges in behind a front, bringing lows into the teens and 20s across northern counties.

Residents across the Piedmont, including cities like Athens, Gainesville, and Carrollton, should take steps to protect pipes, plants, and pets before temperatures bottom out Saturday morning.

More advisories could be issued as wind chills approach dangerous levels across parts of North and Central Georgia through the weekend.
