Atlanta, GA – A cold front is expected to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms across north and central Georgia early Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
Forecasters say rain will move into northwest Georgia before dawn, spreading southeastward across the state through the morning hours. By midday, storms are expected to become more widespread, before tapering off and becoming scattered later in the afternoon.
According to the weather service, a few of these storms could become strong, producing wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph along with frequent lightning. While severe weather is not guaranteed, residents are urged to stay alert to rapidly changing conditions and avoid outdoor activities during morning and midday storms.
Cooler, drier air is expected to follow the front by Sunday night, bringing fall-like temperatures into the new week.
