Atlanta, GA – A high fire danger warning has been issued for north and central Georgia this afternoon into the evening due to low relative humidity and dry conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, humidity levels will drop to 25% or lower for at least four hours between noon and 7 p.m. Winds are expected to come from the north to northwest at speeds of 5 to 10 mph. These conditions, combined with dry vegetation, significantly increase the risk of wildfires.

Authorities urge residents to take precautions, especially those planning to burn outdoors. Officials recommend checking with local burn permitting authorities before starting any fires. If outdoor burning is necessary, extreme caution should be exercised to prevent unintentional wildfires.

The affected area includes numerous counties across north and central Georgia, including Fulton, Cobb, Gwinnett, DeKalb, Forsyth, Cherokee, and Hall. Similar conditions are expected in surrounding regions, heightening the need for fire safety awareness.

Residents are advised to avoid activities that could spark fires, such as discarding cigarette butts improperly or using equipment that generates sparks. Officials will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as necessary.
