Circleville, OH – Authorities have arrested 19-year-old Layle R. Mohler in Columbus, Ohio, in connection with a December shooting that left a Lancaster teen hospitalized, the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday.

According to Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey, deputies responded to a shooting on Dec. 8, 2025, around 3:29 p.m. at a residence on Duvall Road in Ashville. When officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Layton A. Waugh suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Waugh was transported to Ohio Health Grant Medical Center by Harrison Township EMS and later released in stable condition.

Investigators said witnesses reported seeing suspects fleeing the scene in a black front-hooded Saturn Ion. With assistance from the Columbus Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, detectives later located and processed the suspect vehicle for evidence.

After reviewing forensic data, deputies obtained arrest warrants for Tyler A. Stepp, 20, and Layle R. Mohler, 19, both of Columbus, on charges of Complicity to Felonious Assault and Complicity to Aggravated Robbery. Stepp was taken into custody on Dec. 17, 2025, while Mohler was arrested Jan. 6, 2026.

Sheriff Hafey thanked investigators for their efforts and warned that Mohler had previously been considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with additional information about the case is urged to contact Detective Robert Dauberman at 740-420-5752 or by email.
