Ashland, New Hampshire – A wrong-way driver on Interstate 93 late Friday prompted a State Police stop and multiple criminal charges.
According to New Hampshire State Police, a trooper assigned to the Troop F barracks observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 93 in Ashland at approximately 11:43 p.m. Friday.
The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, a red 2014 Kia Sorento, by activating emergency lights and positioning the cruiser in the roadway. Police said the driver maneuvered around the cruiser and continued traveling the wrong direction on the interstate.
Authorities said the trooper then executed a crossover maneuver, moved ahead of the vehicle, and deployed tire deflation devices. The Kia drove over the devices and came to a stop shortly afterward.
The driver was taken into custody and identified as Craig Stanton Pasco, 69, of Wentworth.
Police said Pasco was arrested on a felony charge of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, along with misdemeanor charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated and disobeying an officer. He was transported to Grafton County Jail and held on preventative detention.
Pasco is scheduled to appear in Plymouth District Court on Monday, Feb. 9.
No injuries were reported, but wrong-way interstate incidents are considered high-risk due to the potential for severe or fatal crashes, particularly during overnight travel hours. Interstate 93 is a primary north–south corridor used by commuters, students, and overnight freight traffic through central New Hampshire.
State Police said the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information is asked to contact Trooper Joseph Leva at 603-846-3333.
